ASKBUT I WON’TTELL, PROCEED BEE SHARE ILLINOIS OWNERS STAKES HONORS AT ARLINGTON PARK

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 15, 2010) – Rich Ege & Team Block’s Askbut I Won’ttell and William Stiritz’s Proceed Bee won their respective divisions of the Illinois Owners Stakes at Arlington Park on Saturday.

A daughter of Horse Chestnut, Askbut I Won’ttell took the lead in the stretch from pacesetting Hooh Why and drew off to win the $97,000 fillies division in the Illinois Owners Stakes by three lengths.  With Eduardo Perez aboard, the Chris Block trained 4-year-old covered the mile and a sixteenth over Polytrack in 1:41.79.

“My horse was giving everything she could, she's a nice little filly,” said Perez.  “She was running relaxed.  That horse just stopped in front of me, I had the room and I went for it.”

Hooh Why held the place, followed by Cumulonimble and Mizzcan’tbewrong to complete the order of finish in the field reduced to four after the race was taken off the turf.

Askbut I Won’ttell paid $8.80 and $3.60.  Hooh Why returned $3.20.  There was no show wagering on the race.

A son of Bernstein, Proceed Bee led from gate to wire to capture the $100,000 open division of the Illinois Owners Stakes under regular rider Chris Emigh.  Trained by Scott Becker, Proceed Bee covered the mile and a sixteenth over Polytrack in 1:43.33.

“He got real tired last time,” Emigh said.  “He’s kind of a funny horse – sometimes he runs, sometimes he doesn’t.  It just depends on what kind of mood he’s in.  I didn’t expect to be on the lead, but if they give it to me, I’ll take it.  I had a pretty easy first quarter and I think that’s what won the race for me.”

Princeville Condo was second in the seven-horse field, followed by Public Speaker, Forest Attack, Quite a Handful, Giant Oak and Voy Por Uno Mas.

Proceed Bee paid $16, $8.60 and $5.40.  Princeville Condo returned $8.60 and $4.80.  Public Speaker paid $3.60.
