SATURDAY’S AMERICAN 1000 GUINEAS TO FEATURE FRENCH FILLY

Arlington Park will underline its worldwide reputation as America’s premier international race course this Saturday when Silverton Hill’s Kilmore Quay, who won her last start in France less than a month ago, enters Arlington’s starting gate for the third running of the $200,000 American 1000 Guineas at one mile on the turf.

Although the 3-year-old filly was bred in Ireland, all five of her lifetime starts have come in France, most recently when she won the $46,000 Prix de la Flandrie at Longchamp April 20.  On January 9 in her first start of the year, the daughter of Traditionally out of a Jeune Homme mare captured the $30,000 Prix de Bellouet at Deauville.

Kilmore Quay arrived at Arlington Saturday night after a flight from Europe and should complete quarantine restrictions by Monday morning.  She will be trained by Darrin Miller while in the United States.

“She’s a gorgeous-looking filly,” said Arlington’s director of racing Chris Polzin after observing the chestnut through the fence at Arlington’s Quarantine Barn Sunday morning.  “She has a real nice stride about her – just watching the way she walks around the barn.”

Kilmore Quay is named for a small rural fishing village in the Southeast corner of Ireland near Wexford town in County Wexford.

ILLINOIS OWNERS STAKES HERO PROCEED BEE DOING WELL SUNDAY

William Stiritz’s Proceed Bee, who captured Saturday’s $100,000 Illinois Owners Stakes with a half-length wire-to-wire victory under veteran jockey Chris Emigh, returned in fine fettle and was doing well Sunday morning, according to trainer Scott Becker.

“Everything looks good this morning,” said Becker during training hours.  “We have not decided what’s next for him, but I don’t think he’ll be running back right away.  The owner and I will sit down and work out a little schedule for her.  The Arlington Handicap (Grade III, July 17) is certainly a possibility.”

Emigh, Arlington’s leading rider in 2006, completed a Saturday riding triple for the afternoon astride Proceed Bee.

“I had a different strategy in mind going into the race,” said Emigh in post-race comments.  “I didn’t want to be on the lead, but they gave it to me.  We were going slow, so I took it.  Sometimes you got to take what you can get.”

Emigh also took Saturday’s opener aboard Robert Sedlacek and Rita Pucci’s Pretty Slick Chick for trainer Frank Kirby and the fourth astride S. D. Brilie Ltd. Partnership’s Pathway for Christine Janks.

PRINCEVILLE CONDO NOW ON OPEN MARKET

Barr Three and Cherrywood Racing Stable II’s Princeville Condo returned to competition for the first time since suffering from an entrapped epiglottis in Fair Grounds’ Grade III Col. E. R. Bradley Handicap Jan. 23 and responded with a game runner-up finish after being forced wide most of the way.

“He came out of yesterday’s race just fine,” said trainer Michele Boyce Sunday morning.  “He was looking around this morning for more action.  I might take a look at that Illinois-bred race in June for him ($100,000 Black Tie Affair Handicap June 19 on Prairie State Festival Day), but now that he’s run so well on Polytrack (Saturday’s Illinois Owners was taken off the turf) – that opens up a lot more possibilities for him.”

The Grade III Arlington Handicap July 17?

“That’s also certainly a possibility,” Boyce said.

BLOCK-TRAINED ILLINOIS OWNERS RUNNERS RETURN WELL

Team Block and Rich Ege’s Askbut I Won’ttell, winner of Saturday’s $97,000 Illinois Owners Stakes (female division), and Virginia Tarra’s Giant Oak, beaten favorite in the open division, both came out of their efforts without problems, according to trainer Chris Block.
