DALE CAPUANO SHOWCASING PIMLICO DOMINANCE
BALTIMORE, 04-24-10---Trainer Dale Capuano has saddled four sprint winners this week, taking three races on the turf and one on the main track. The 47-year-old sits atop the Pimlico training standings with five winners from 10 starters after five live racing days of the spring meeting.
Capuano’s strong showing started on Thursday when Daily Candy ($13.80) beat allowance runners on the grass. Naseeb ($7.20) topped claiming maidens on the turf in Friday’s 3rd race and Beer Stien ($5.80) was a popular winner over $10,000 claimers in the nightcap, also on the turf.
“We have the right horses in the right spot and it has worked out really well,” Capuano said. “Beer Stien just loves the turf and the other two are bred to like the turf and they took to it.”
Saturday’s success came when first time starter Brahma Queen out stepped $8,000 claiming maidens in a race on the dirt.
“We usually have success at Pimlico,” added Capuano. “The horses are starting to come around. The winter was so rough and we took our time. Hopefully we’ll have a strong spring meet.”
Capuano has 30 training titles at the major Maryland tracks during his career. He captured the Pimlico spring meets nine times during a 10-year period from 1996-2005.
