·        Leading Owner Calabrese Horses First to Arrive at Arlington Park for 2010 season

LEADING OWNER CALABRESE HORSES FIRST TO ARRIVE

AT ARLINGTON PARK FOR 2010 SEASON

With the sun breaking through the clouds on a crisp but nice spring morning in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, horse vans began to flow though the stable gate at Arlington Park slightly ahead of the planned 7 a.m. opening in order to alleviate pressure on the access road leading to the track’s backstretch area.

In short order, four Sallee vans containing some 30 horses owned by Frank C. Calabrese, who has captured every owner title in races won since 2000 and has also garnered leading-money owner honors in seven of the last nine years.  Those horses, trained by Nick Canani, were bedded down in Barn 22 shortly thereafter.

“We’re getting ready for another big meet,” Calabrese said.  “I think we’ve got 30 at Arlington now with another batch coming soon.  Nick Canani is going to be training for me up there this year.”

Since last season ended, Calabrese’s stock has been spread between Hawthorne, Gulfstream Park and a few at the Fair Grounds.  Not surprisingly, his horses have run well regardless of the venue.

“I’m leading owner (in races won) at Gulfstream Park,” Calabrese said proudly.  “That’s a good meet down there and to be leading owner is a really good thing.”

Calabrese is looking forward to another successful season at Arlington Park.

“You guys got a good man there in (new director of racing and racing secretary) Chris Polzin,” he said.  “He’s a smart man and will do a good job.”
