CASTANON TO CLICK FOR COOPER AGAIN AT ARLINGTON

Three years ago, just days after Labor Day weekend, Panamanian-born jockey Jesus Castanon rode a triple just days after his local debut.

Last season at Arlington, the 36-year-old Kentucky resident accomplished that same feat locally after shipping his tack to the local oval following the close of the Saratoga season.

Then, during Arlington’s closing weekend last fall, Castanon had back-to-back riding triples to end his short local season with 21 winners from 90 mounts for a 23 percent win ratio, with 56 percent of his mounts finishing in the money.

However, for Arlington’s 2010 season, Castanon plans to ride locally on regular basis, and his engagements will be handled Dennis Cooper, known for guiding Mark Guidry, Rene Douglas and Shaun Bridgmohan to a  conglomerate of local leading rider honors.

Based on his exhibited riding skills despite the brevity of his local career, as well as the seemingly unlimited connections of Cooper, Castanon has to be considered as one of the early favorites for Arlington’s 2010 leading rider honors.

Cooper will also be handling the engagements of Quincy Hamilton this season. Hamilton, who passed the 1,000-career win milestone here last year, ended his 2009 Arlington campaign with 33 wins, 35 seconds and 20 third-place finishes for a 14 percent win ratio and a 35 percent in-the-money ratio.

REMINDER:  ARLINGTON’S FRIDAY POST TIME IS 3 P.M

Thoroughbred racing fans and guests of Arlington Park are reminded that post time for Friday’s twilight program is 3 p.m.
