NYRA UNVEILS 2010 BELMONT STAKES LOGO
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association has unveiled the logo for the 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes, the 1½-mile “Test of the Champion,” the longest and final leg of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown for three-year-olds.
The 2010 Belmont Stakes logo features the Brooklyn Bridge and a galloping horse and rider superimposed before the New York City skyline. Like the famous span, a central fixture in the city landscape, Belmont Park’s sweeping oval is among the most recognizable in racing. When the bridge opened to traffic in 1883 it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, a fitting juxtaposition with the longest track in North America. The logo also features the historic Empire State Building, synonymous with the instantly recognizable New York City skyline.
The 2010 Belmont Stakes logo was designed by Eric Johnston of Art Design Studios [http://www.ericmjohnston.com/].
The 142nd running of the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes will be held Saturday, June 5. ABC and ESPN will provide live coverage of the day’s events.
