EIGHTYFIVEINAFIFTY A SOLID NUMBER HEADING INTO
OZONE PARK, N.Y. A dynamic speedball who broke his maiden by 17¼ lengths January 9 on the inner dirt course at Aqueduct Racetrack, Eightyfiveinafifty seeks to become a new stakes star Saturday in the 50th running of the Grade 3, $200,000 Bay Shore.
Few horses have been as tantalizing during the past winter meet as the bay son of Forest Camp, owned by Harold Lerner, LLC. His maiden victory, in his second start, was nothing short of scintillating as Eightyfiveinafifty continually widened the distance between himself and the rest of the field to take the six-furlong race on a deep track in 1:10.85. He earned a 105 Beyer Speed Figure, second only to Wood Memorial morning-line favorite Eskendereya's 106 in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth.
With designs on the major spring races for 3-year-olds, Eightyfiveinafifty entered the Whirlaway at 1 1/16 miles as a commanding favorite, but failed to negotiate the first turn.
"The good thing was he slowed down when he got to the rail," said rider Jorge Chavez, who will be replaced by

Trainer John Terranova expected a big run that day, but Remand encountered all sorts of problems.
"In the gate that day there was a horse acting up a couple of stalls down from us, and it kind of caused a chain reaction, and we were part of it," Terranova said. "Two or three horses were gate-scratched, but we didn't get scratched, and I wish we had, in retrospect, because he got rocked pretty good, cut up a little, and didn't fire nearly the way we thought he would.
"He's training really, really well, and I'm anxious to watch him run. He's very talented."

Two Tone Farms' El Rocco, who has placed in four of the five stakes races he has entered, and supplemental entry Noah's Dream, a recent allowance winner at Laurel Park for trainer Graham Motion, complete the field.
