Arson Squad & Bold Start Work for Skip Away
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL (Sat., March 27, 2010) – Jay Em Ess Stable’s 7-year-old Arson Squad worked six furlongs in 1:14 2/5 over the ‘muddy’ Gulfstream Park track Saturday morning for trainer Rick Dutrow as one of three older horses on the tab nominated for next Saturday’s $100,000 Skip Away Stakes (G3) to be run at 1 3/16 miles.
Arson Squad is among the most accomplished of the Skip Away prospects as the winner of the Strub Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita as a 4-year-old when trained by Bruce Headley in
A Pennsylvania-bred son of Brahms, Arson Squad ran well to finish a close-up fourth in the Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs early in 2009 and has started twice this year. He came back with a third-place effort going a mile in an allowance here on Feb. 6 and finished second as the odds-on favorite last out in the nine-furlong Challenger Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Mar. 6.
Lawrence Carroll’s 6-year-old Bold Start won the Challenger in track record time, going wire-to-wire by 4 ¼ lengths and also worked Saturday morning at Gulfstream, timed five furlongs in 1:02 2/5 for trainer Kenny McPeek. The son of Jump Start has done his best at sprint distances through most of his career, but showed more scope winning the Challenger so impressively.
Also working five furlongs in 1:02 2/5 was Alghuwayriyah Stable’s 5-year-old gelding Eldaafer for trainer Diane Alvarado. The son of A.P. Indy is a proven long distance performer winning the 12-furlong Brooklyn Handicap (G2) last spring at

While Patricia Generazio’s 7-year-old gelding Presious Passion was the focus of worldwide attention from racing fans over the weekend running in the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic (G1), his 4-year-old half-sister Just Livin a Dream will have her day competing in Wednesday’s eighth race allowance feature at
Jockey Eddie Castro gets the call on Just Livin a Dream for trainer Mary Hartmann in the entry-level allowance test at one mile on turf in a field of nine fillies and mares. The daughter of Trippi out of Princesa’s Passion has finished third and sixth in two allowance starts at the meet and finishing fourth in two stakes over the course here last year.
The likely favorite in the race is Team Valor International’s 4-year-old Irish-bred filly Americas Dreaming with Alan Garcia to ride for trainer Jimmy Toner. The daughter of Statue of Liberty makes her second start this year after just missing by a head when second as the favorite in a Tampa Bay Downs allowance on Mar. 6 in her first start since a good try finishing second in an allowance at Saratoga on Aug. 24.
