Pimlico Today-Henry Clark Stakes Advance

BALTIMORE BOB HEADLINES HENRY CLARK STAKES

BALTIMORE, 04-16-10---It has to be synchronicity, the experience of two events that are casually unrelated occurring together in a meaningful manner. Pimlico Race Course kicks off the marquee meeting of the Maryland racing year at the historic Baltimore track on Saturday. The favorite in the Saturday feature is Baltimore Bob.

Nine runners will race a mile on the turf in $70,000 Henry Clark Stakes. Baltimore Bob (8-5) wintered in Louisiana and returns after posting a number of strong grass efforts this winter. The son of Malibu Moon raced on Pimlico’s turf last year, finishing sixth in the Clark and eighth in the Grade II Dixie Stakes on the Preakness undercard. His winter campaign included a third place finish the Grade III Fair Grounds Handicap in mid-February.

Baltimore Bob came into trainer J.B. Secor’s barn in late March.

“I’m superstitious and I don’t want to jinx him but he’s doing very well so far,” Secor said. “Carlos Garcia and Helen Pitts have done a very good job with him and I just want to continue what they’ve started.”

Vladimir Diaz has the mount.

Indian Dance (3-1) has been nominated to both the Clark and the Charles Town Classic on Saturday. A four time winner in only six starts, Indian Dance took the Harrison Johnson Stakes at Laurel Park last month. Larry Murray trains the son of Indian Charlie. Luis Garcia has the riding assignment.

Nine-year-old Delaware River (9-2), who finished Laurel’s winter meeting with two straight wins over optional/claimers, is winless in six tries on the grass. The son of Quiet American has earned $680,592 during his career, which includes five stakes victories, including the last three runnings of the Smarty Jones Classic at Philadelphia Park. Horacio Karamanos will ride for trainer Billy Campbell.

Edgewater (6-1) brings a 3-2-0 record in six starts to the Clark. The son of Lion Heart has won three of his last four and carried Travis Dunkelberger each time for trainer Rodney Jenkins. Edgewater led throughout when he broke his maiden on the grass last year at Laurel Park.

Rosie Napravnik travels to Pimlico to ride Rockaby Bay (10-1), who has finished first or second in 12 of 20 grass tries, including a score in the Kittens Joy Stakes at Colonial Downs last summer. The Hamilton Smith trainee has three wins and four second place finishes at the distance.

Bricknell (12-1) won last year’s Clark at odds of 50-1 but is winless in seven starts since. The son of Deputy Minister has a 51-11-12-7 record on the grass.

Completing the field are Crimson Comic (12-1), Our Commander (12-1) and Invisible Genius (30-1).

The Clark is the ninth race on the card and is the middle leg of the new All Turf Pick 3 that will end all Saturday cards during the spring stand, except Preakness Day.
