ALL GIVING ROMPS IN PRIMONETTA STAKES
LAUREL, MD. 04-03-10---All Giving returned to her winning ways with a galloping victory in the $70,000 Primonetta Stakes at Laurel Park. Owned by Concepts Unlimited Stable and Catherine J. Smith, All Giving was winning for the seventh time at the central Maryland track. Her last win came in the Maryland Million Distaff Handicap here last September.
Today the 6-year-old daughter of Allen’s Prospect carried Horacio Karamanos to a 2-3/4 length victory in 1:09.55 for the six-furlong distance over a fast main track. She had prepped for this start with a third place finish in the seven-furlong Conniver Stakes last month.
“Last time she needed the race,” said Karamanos. “She broke sharp out of the gate and put herself into striking position nice and easy. I just waited for the moment and after the 3/8th pole I put her outside to give me a run to the finish. She’s come back to be the same strong horse.”
All Giving stalked the pacesetters into deep stretch before driving to the lead a furlong from the finish line. Next best this afternoon was Streetscape, with longshot speedster What Time It Is holding on to be third. All Giving paid $8.20 and topped a $92.80 exacta and $880.40 trifecta.
“She’s come back really well this year,” said trainer Flint Stites. “The plan was to run her in an allowance race before we started her campaign this year but unfortunately we couldn’t find that race. We had to run her last time. It was a little too far and this time she was back in her wheelhouse where she’s much more comfortable going three-quarters.”
All Giving now has seven stakes victories on her resume and the win boosted her earnings over $555,000.
Karamanos, who returned to the jockey colony last month after nearly a year and a half riding in his native Argentina, won four races from just eights mounts this week.
“I am happy to be back and can’t wait for the Pimlico meet to begin,” added Karamanos.
The Pimlico spring meeting begins Saturday, April 17, one week after the Laurel Park winter stands ends.
